CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY

On June 9th, 1989 Jack and Shel were born by cesarean section to Genevieve and Jeffrey Sands Sr. A C-section was necessary, since the boys' umbilical cords were each tightly wrapped around the others throat. If one was born naturally, one or both would have died. Setting a tone of violence that would last throughout their lives.
As it was, Jack was deprived of oxygen for longer and had to be kept in the hospital for weeks. The stronger, healthier baby (and clearly, the more successful killer) was given the name Sheldon Jeffrey Sands Jr. He was quickly favored by the father who gave him the honor of his name. This favor didn't last more then a few years. Both boys were tiny and he resented it. His mother deemed him 'Shel'. Sheldon Sr. calls him Jr., which he hates. Their mother doted on the weaker baby. Perhaps his anti-social problems were something Shel was born with- but because of his jealous and controlling personality, his mother's preference for the baby that needed her most was seen as tratorious.

By the time they entered school Jack was far more social than his brother. The trade off being that he was somehow less...studious. Jack perfected his cons while Sands learned from his brother quickly. They both had a talent for it. In turn for Jack bringing him into his petty crimes, Sheldon would let him cheat off him. But soon Jack wasn't satisfied with Sands being the 'smart' one. His grades were sliding and he was risking being held back. Jack studied like hell for mid-terms and Shel busted his ass helping. When the tests were finally taken, Jack was accused of cheating in two classes, which snowballed to include even more. No one would believe he actually got his grades the right way this time, no matter what Jack or Sheldon said. Jack was looking at being held back or expelled. So the brothers broke into the school one night and destroyed it. They graffitied and smashed everything. The level of destruction had them quickly expelled from the base school and, before long, their father was suddenly reassigned to a shitty supply post in Pennsylvania.
No longer willing to let his sons ruin his career, the boys' father rented a house off base for his family. A quaint little suburb close to public schooling and a decent distance from the base. A few hours away. So far that he keeps his own housing on base for the work week and only comes home to his family on the weekends. Fine by both of them.

Sheldon is the emotionally weaker one of the set. Because of their difficult birth, the instant separation of the two, and his already existing problems- he suffers from an attachment disorder that is fairly common in these cases. The thought of his twin bonding with another, or doing things on his own sends Sheldon into a frightened and hostile state. He can be easily calmed by Jack but it is always below the surface.

In better words then mine:
"In the movie Quills, Geoffrey Rush as the Marquis De Sade has this awesome line, about what he as the Marquis believes are the 'eternal truths that bind together all mankind': "We eat, we shit, we fuck, we kill and we die." That's the body; that's an unflinching no-bullshit view of the actions that human life produces, although it may be a tinge sociopathic. That's Sheldon, and I don't think I'm going to get much argument from anyone on this point. He is Actions, personified. He speaks, but his words have no real meaning (as they are nearly always carefully calculated lies), and so it is what he does that speaks to the truth of things. When he's upset he throws violent fits, because he can't express himself any other way. He's not capable of it. He expresses love for his brother through touch, because that's how the body physically experiences love, and that's how he is capable of returning it. Violence is affection; attention is attention; feeling is feeling. While eventually he'll mature into the mind, it will take a lot of time and practice."
